KIN TSUGI - Dogstar Clothing
KIN TSUGI | Dogstar Collaboration 2022
Twenty-seven vintage kimono. Hand Dyed by Shannon Voss/Swimming With Crocodiles
Hand dyed, printed, ironed and catalogued in an industrial shed in Arnhem Land in Australia's Northern Territory.
No factory. No production line. No two the same.
Working with native botanicals, rust, heat, natural fibres and whatever the Territory climate decided to throw at me that day, each garment became a textile skin carrying the marks of process, place and survival.
Inspired by the Japanese philosophy of kintsugi — the art of finding beauty in scars, cracks and history — these pieces weren't about perfection. They were about transformation.
Old cloth given another life.
Japanese silhouettes collided with the raw colours and textures of remote Australia; monsoon skies, iron-rich earth, paperbarks and rust stains finding their way onto silk and linen that had already lived another life before arriving in my hands.
Every piece was an original.
Unrepeatable, imperfect and unapologetically individual.
Exactly as it should be.
